Spring News

Okeley Dokeley News: Just finished recording our new ukulele resource. Our launch will be on the 30th October  7pm – venue to be confirmed.

You will be able to order our resource soon – CD : 12 original songs with book of words, chords and music.

Popular songs: Tropical Waiheke, Poncho Rae, On a Clear Day, Rainbow, Colours of Aotearoa, Cupcakes…..and more.

Caro and I have been teaching a large number of adult students, so we know this resource will appeal to them.

The children will enjoy the songs too, like… Fondue on the Beach, Okeley Dokeley and Bush Walk.

Thank you to Neill Robinson in Waiuku for recording our songs and singing some of the harmonies.

Thank you to our friends Pip D and Millie for singing one of the songs.

Workshop planning is underway for the remainder of 2010 and the beginning of 2011.

North Shore will host a workshop on ‘Colours’ and ‘Okeley Dokeley Ukulele’ on the 6 Nov.

Plans are underway for our South Island Tour in January/February 2011, starting in Christchurch on the 25 Jan

and ending in Blenheim on the 7th Feb.

Come along and see us at our launch or on our workshops. Enrol on the website for the next workshops.

Winter News

We are currently recording our new resource ‘Okeley Dokeley Ukulele’. This has 12 original tracks on it. Some of the titles include: Tropical Waiheke, Cupcakes, Poncho Rae,  Elegant Simplicity and more.

Watch this space for the launch of the new CD and resource book during Term 3.

Both Caro and Clare are presenting a workshop for the ONZA run ‘Strum Hum Wriggle and Drum’ Early Childhood workshop day on the 14 August in Auckland.

Then Clare will travel to Melbourne to present a workshop on our ‘Colours of Aotearoa’ resource at the ECCPA Conference.

We are planning a South Island Tour for Feb 2011. Let us know if you are keen for a workshop on our resources for teachers and also for ukulele players.

We would love a campervan to hire from Christchurch – any contacts there? (or a horse-drawn cart would be fine too!)

Share and Care on the Marimba

Share and Care on the Marimba

After our adventures in OZ, Clare and I embarked on another journey: our NZ tour!

In the last 8 weeks we have done some workshops in Auckland and Hamilton. We have been pleasantly surprised by the good turn out to all of these sessions and especially by the enthusiasm and support we have received by the participants. It is great when people are positive and encouraging about what you do!

Some of the comments teachers made about our workshops were:

“I have had so much fun today”

” I enjoyed every single minute of it”

“Good work girls, it is great to try some new, fresh material that I can use in the classroom.”

“Thanks for the course – great presentation from you both, and makes me more enthusiastic to go for it. Staff liked the report back, and are looking to have more music in the classes”

“I have been doing ‘Value Yourself’ as an assembly song. It works very well. It is great that it is so easy to sing, which means the whole school can join in. I have also had fun asking the children what they think it means. My favourite answer was from a 5 year old who said “It means, I’m really special”

We are very busy meeting deadlines at the moment for our Christmas story with CD and organising our next workshops which will take place in:

Palmerston North 17 April

Napier 1 May

Wellington 23 May

Christchurch 3 July

ECCPA Conference August in Melbourne

If you haven’t been to one of them and are in the neighbourhood, please come along – you will not be disappointed.
